It is the largest temple complex in northern India and the spiritual heart of Jammu city (the 'City of Temples'). It serves as the patron temple of the Dogra rulers of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mythology
The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama (Raghunath), the principal deity of the Dogra dynasty, who claim their descent from Lord Rama's dynasty (Suryavansha). The complex is massive, housing 7 shrines, each with its own Shikhara (tower).
