Srisailam is uniquely sacred as both Jyotirlinga #2 and one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas — making it an exceptionally rare dual holy site. Shiva resides as Mallikarjuna; Parvati as Bhramaramba (she who took the form of a bee to slay demon Arunasura). Located deep in the Nallamala Hills on the banks of the Krishna River.

Sri Brahmaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is a Hindu sacred place in Srisailam, Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, connected with Lord Shiva (Mallikarjuna). As a Jyotirlinga, the temple belongs to the pan-Indian Shaiva circuit where devotees worship Shiva as self-manifest light and plan darshan as part of a wider sacred route.
One of the oldest continuously worshipped temples in India. The Nasik inscriptions of Satavahana Queen Naganika (~2nd century BC) mention the site. The Kakatiya Queen Mailamamba built the present Garbhagriha in 1220–1230 CE. The Mukhamandapa (16-pillar front hall) was built by Vijayanagara king Harihara II in 1405 CE. The Northern gopuram was funded by Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1667 CE. Adi Shankaracharya installed the Srichakra in the Bhramaramba sanctum. Currently administered by AP Endowments Department.
Major observances connected with this profile include Maha Shivaratri (Feb/Mar) — grandest festival; declared state-level event; lakhs of devotees, Ugadi (Mar/Apr) — Telugu New Year; 5-day special pujas, Karthika Masam (Oct/Nov) — entire month; Karthika Poornima especially significant, Dussehra/Vijayadasami (Oct) — major celebration. During these periods, devotees should expect heavier crowds, longer queues, and a stronger emphasis on aarti, utsav, and local temple customs.
A useful visit plan begins with the darshan window, then works backward through route, footwear and bag rules, offering guidelines, queue options, and local transport from Srisailam. For older shrines and high-crowd temples, early morning and non-festival weekdays usually give devotees more time for quiet prayer.
For devotional preparation, visitors can keep the practice simple: learn the main deity's name, carry only permitted offerings, observe modest dress, and close the visit with a short mantra, pradakshina, or dana where appropriate. This keeps temple travel connected to sadhana rather than only sightseeing.
