Mahalasa is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Mohini, the divine enchantress. It is a rare temple where Vishnu is worshipped in a female form. Like many Goan temples, the deity was moved here from an older site (Verna) in the 16th century to escape Portuguese destruction.

Mahalasa Narayani Temple is a Hindu sacred place in Mardol, North Goa, Goa, connected with Goddess Mahalasa (Mohini). The temple belongs to the Vaishnava stream of worship, where darshan, nama-smarana, Tulasi offering, festival seva, and scriptural remembrance often guide the visit.
During the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), when the demons stole the nectar of immortality (Amrit), Lord Vishnu took the mesmerizing female form of Mohini to trick the demons and distribute the nectar to the gods. In Goa, she is worshipped as Mahalasa Narayani.
Major observances connected with this profile include Jatra (February), Sunday Palakhi (Every Sunday), Navaratri (September–October). During these periods, devotees should expect heavier crowds, longer queues, and a stronger emphasis on aarti, utsav, and local temple customs.
A useful visit plan begins with the darshan window, then works backward through route, footwear and bag rules, offering guidelines, queue options, and local transport from Mardol. For older shrines and high-crowd temples, early morning and non-festival weekdays usually give devotees more time for quiet prayer.
For devotional preparation, visitors can keep the practice simple: learn the main deity's name, carry only permitted offerings, observe modest dress, and close the visit with a short mantra, pradakshina, or dana where appropriate. This keeps temple travel connected to sadhana rather than only sightseeing.
