The Jagannath Temple of Ranchi is one of the most prominent landmarks of the city. It is a smaller replica of the famous Jagannath Temple of Puri and holds immense cultural significance for the people of Jharkhand.
Mythology
The temple was built in 1691 by the king of Barkagarh, Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo. Unlike the massive stone structures of Puri, it was built using regional materials but strictly follows the rituals and traditions of the Puri temple.
