Danteshwari is the presiding deity of the Bastar state and the entire Bastar region. It is considered one of the 52 Shakti Peethas. The town of Dantewada is named after the Goddess.
Mythology
According to the legend of Daksha Yajna, the tooth (Dant) of Sati fell here, leading to the name Danteshwari. She is deeply revered by the local tribal population who worship her as their clan deity (Kuldevi).
