The temple is extremely famous across Kerala for its 'Palpayasam' (a sweet pudding made of rice, milk, and sugar) which is offered to the Lord. The deity is worshipped as Parthasarathy (the charioteer of Arjuna), holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left.

Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple is a Hindu sacred place in Ambalappuzha, Alappuzha, Kerala, connected with Lord Krishna (Parthasarathy). The temple belongs to the Vaishnava stream of worship, where darshan, nama-smarana, Tulasi offering, festival seva, and scriptural remembrance often guide the visit.
The temple was built by the local king Chembakassery Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran in the 15th century. According to legend, Lord Krishna appeared as a sage and challenged the king to a game of chess, asking for grains of rice doubling on each square. The king lost and realized he could not pay the astronomical debt. Krishna revealed himself and told the king to pay the debt by serving Palpayasam to pilgrims every day.
Major observances connected with this profile include Ambalappuzha Arattu (March–April (Meenam)), Chambakulam Moolam Boat Race (June–July). During these periods, devotees should expect heavier crowds, longer queues, and a stronger emphasis on aarti, utsav, and local temple customs.
A useful visit plan begins with the darshan window, then works backward through route, footwear and bag rules, offering guidelines, queue options, and local transport from Ambalappuzha. For older shrines and high-crowd temples, early morning and non-festival weekdays usually give devotees more time for quiet prayer.
For devotional preparation, visitors can keep the practice simple: learn the main deity's name, carry only permitted offerings, observe modest dress, and close the visit with a short mantra, pradakshina, or dana where appropriate. This keeps temple travel connected to sadhana rather than only sightseeing.
