Durga Saptashati, also called Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is the 700-verse glorification of the Divine Mother from the Markandeya Purana. It is the central scripture for many Navratri and Shakta worship traditions.
The text narrates Devi's victories over Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura, Shumbha, Nishumbha, and other forces of adharma, while revealing her as the cosmic Mother who protects and sustains the worlds.
The path teaches that Shakti appears whenever dharma needs protection. Its stories are read both as sacred history and as inner symbolism: Devi destroys arrogance, inertia, greed, fear, and confusion.
