Salutation to the Guru as the embodiment of the Trimurti. Recited in morning prayers and before beginning any study.
गुरु ब्रह्मा गुरु विष्णु
When to recite: Morning prayer, before studies, Guru Purnima, Guru Puja
Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu is a short and beloved guru mantra used before study, satsang, scriptural reading, music practice, and Guru Purnima worship. It honors the guru as the one who creates understanding, sustains practice, removes ignorance, and points toward Brahman.
In Hindu learning traditions, guru-bhakti is not only respect for a person; it is reverence for the flow of knowledge, discipline, correction, and grace that makes real study possible.
The mantra says that the guru is Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshvara, and that the guru is the visible doorway to Parabrahman. It ends with salutations to that revered guru.
