The Mahamantra for the age of Kali. Chanting liberates from material bondage, purifies consciousness and brings one closer to Krishna. Central to ISKCON tradition.
हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र
When to recite: Daily, Janmashtami, continuously as japa (108 times on beads), Holi
The Hare Krishna Mahamantra is the sixteen-name mantra praised in Gaudiya Vaishnava practice and widely sung through kirtan and japa. It calls on Krishna, Rama, and Hara or Hare, understood in the tradition as the Lord's divine energy and the compassionate call of devotion.
Unlike many longer stotras, this mantra is designed for repetition. It can be sung collectively with mridanga and kartal, whispered on beads, or remembered quietly as nama-smarana.
The mantra is a direct call to the Divine Names: Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. Its mood is prayerful calling, asking to be engaged in loving service and drawn closer to Krishna through nama.
