The Ashtakshara (eight-syllable) mantra of Vaishnavism. Salutation to Narayana. Grants moksha, peace, and all-round prosperity.
ॐ नमो नारायणाय
When to recite: Daily, Ekadashi, all Vishnu occasions, continuously as japa
Om Namo Narayanaya is the Ashtakshara mantra, a central Vaishnava mantra of surrender to Lord Narayana. It is used in daily japa, temple worship, Ekadashi observance, and remembrance of Vishnu as the refuge of all beings.
The mantra is devotional and philosophical at once: Narayana is the supreme shelter, the indwelling Lord, and the sustaining ground of the universe. Repetition trains the heart toward surrender, humility, and trust in the Lord.
The mantra means Om, salutations to Narayana. Namo expresses bowing and surrender; Narayana is the Lord in whom beings rest and from whom they are sustained.
