The most sacred Vedic mantra. Invokes divine light and wisdom to illuminate the intellect. Chanted for spiritual upliftment, mental clarity and universal welfare.
गायत्री मंत्र
When to recite: Sandhya (sunrise, noon, sunset), daily morning, Upanayana ceremony
The Gayatri Mantra is the famous Savitri mantra from Rigveda 3.62.10 and is central to sandhya practice in many Hindu lineages. It invokes Savitri, the divine solar radiance, not merely as physical sunlight but as the power that awakens the intellect toward truth.
In traditional practice, Gayatri is treated with special respect because it is Vedic mantra. Formal japa is often learned through initiation and correct pronunciation, while many devotees also recite it reverently as a daily prayer for clarity, wisdom, and universal welfare.
The mantra asks: may we meditate on the adorable radiance of Savitri; may that divine brilliance inspire and guide our intellect. Its heart is illumination of dhi, the faculty of understanding and discernment.
