अरुल्मिगु सुब्रमण्य स्वामी मंदिर, तिरुचेंदूर
Thiruchendur is the second of the Arupadai Veedu (Six Abodes of Murugan). It is the only one among the six that is situated on the seashore. It marks the place where Lord Murugan encamped before and after his battle with the demon Surapadman.
Mythology
Lord Murugan defeated the demon king Surapadman in a fierce battle that is believed to have taken place near this seashore. Surapadman was split into two by Murugan's Vel (spear) and transformed into a peacock (Murugan's mount) and a rooster (featured on his flag). The Soorasamharam festival re-enacts this victory.
