Sringeri Sharada Peetham

Sringeri Sharada Peetham is a Hindu sacred place in Sringeri, Chikmagalur, Karnataka, connected with Goddess Sharadamba (Saraswati/Sharada). The temple belongs to the Shakta stream of worship, where devotees seek the Mother through darshan, aarti, kumkum, vrata, and festival observances such as Navratri.

Adi Shankaracharya was searching for a place to establish his first matha. When he reached Sringeri on the banks of the Tunga River, he saw a cobra spreading its hood to provide shade to a spawning frog from the hot sun. Struck by the sanctity of the place where natural enemies existed in harmony, he decided to establish the Sharada Peetham here.
