Shivani Shakti Peeth (Panchasagar)

Panchasagar / Shivani is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas — the network of divine power spots created when Sati's body fragments fell across the subcontinent. At this site, Sati's lower teeth (adho danta) fell; the goddess is known as Shivani (the goddess who embodies Shiva's own power or shakti). The presiding Bhairava is Maharudra — a fierce, primordial form of Shiva. 'Shivani' as a goddess name denotes the feminine form of Shiva: the intimate divine companion, the goddess who holds Shiva's own essence.
