Ratnavali is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas — the sacred sites where Sati's body fragments fell and where the goddess is believed to be physically present. The right shoulder (dakshina skandha) of Sati fell here; the shoulder represents strength, support, and capability — the capacity to bear the weight of the universe. The goddess is called Ratnavali ("the one adorned with a garland of gems") or Kumari ("the virgin goddess"). This is one of the lesser-documented and lesser-visited Shakti Peethas; it lacks the prominent temple infrastructure and high pilgrimage traffic of the major peethas. Devoted pilgrims undertaking a complete 51 Shakti Peeth yatra will include this site, but casual pilgrims would typically not visit specifically for this peeth.
