पझमुदिर्चोलाई मुरुगन मंदिर
Pazhamudircholai is the sixth of the Arupadai Veedu. It is the only abode among the six where Lord Murugan is depicted with both his consorts, Valli and Devasena, standing alongside him. The temple is surrounded by dense forests.
Mythology
According to legend, the great Tamil poetess Avvaiyar was tested by Lord Murugan here. Murugan appeared as a young boy sitting on a Naaval (Jambul) tree and asked Avvaiyar if she wanted "roasted fruits or unroasted fruits." Avvaiyar, puzzled, asked for unroasted. The boy shook the tree, and fruits fell to the ground. When Avvaiyar picked them up and blew on them to remove the dust, the boy jokingly asked if the fruits were too hot. Realizing the boy was Murugan, she surrendered to his divine wisdom.
