It is a highly revered ancient Shiva temple in Assam, built by the Ahom kings. It stands on a hillock surrounded by lush green tea gardens.
Mythology
The name 'Negheriting' comes from a local bird called 'Negheri' which used to build its nests in this place. The temple houses an enormous ancient Shiva Linga (nearly 3 feet in diameter).
