श्री गिरिजात्मज मंदिर, लेण्याद्रि
Girijatmaj is the sixth Ashtavinayak. It is the only Ashtavinayak temple located in a Buddhist cave. 'Girijatmaj' means 'born of Girija' (Parvati).
Mythology
According to the Ganesha Purana, Goddess Parvati performed severe penance here in the Lenyadri caves for 12 years to obtain a son. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva granted her the boon. Ganesha incarnated as her son, and his childhood was spent on this mountain.
